A friend of mine is a citizen from a non Visa-waiver country, married to an American. They've been married for two years and she is expected to receive her green card in a few months at the embassy of her country of origin where she still lives. Because of abuse issues, she wants to separate asap but is afraid he might retaliate by trying to prevent her from receiving her green card. Is that possible, or should she wait until she has the Green Card in her hands? Thanks!

Does anyone know what email / letter(s) one should get when the GC is approved ?
I received this email two days ago:
On November 13, 2006, a welcome notice was mailed for this case. If 30 days have passed and you have not received this notice. Please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283 during business hours.
Does this constitute as a GC approval ?
I read in other threads that a "card ordered" email follows the GC approval but I haven't received the email (nor the physical card yet).
Does it normally take 1 or more weeks for the physical card to arrive after approval ?

Congratulations on crossing the greencard hurdle. You have been a member since March 2006 and have been participating in this struggle. You have also endured a long wait since Aug 2001. If you have not yet contributed pls do not forget to contribute some money to IV. It will help keep this struggle alive and help other members waiting in line.

Hi all,
I am getting a new job offer and i applied my GC this July just like most of us here. Is it possible to accept the offer and transfer the H1B visa, then try and negotiate to start later as soon as 180 days are completed?
What happens if i transfer my H1 now ... less than 180 days..and do not start with the new company, will my 485 still be processed? Lets say the H1 is transferred, but i plan not to use that H1 and stick to the same company where my H1 is, will that still be ok?
I am confused, its a good offer, and i dont know what to do. pls help..

I dont think will give a true picture. There are a lot of people who dont care about tracking once they apply.

I applied for H1B as a Software Test Engineer and my LCA is applied with the same job description. Now i wish to work as Programmer Analyst in the same location specified in the LCA. will i need to amend my LCA or H1B or is it fine to continue with the same LCA. I want to extend the stay for my Parents for few months. They are on visitors visa. I am aware that I need to file form I - 539 for this purpose. I am not sure what reason should I specify for extention?
If some one had done extention for visitors visa in past please, I would appereciate your help on this.

Also, dont specify Medical emergencies. They sometimes ask you to provide letters from the doctors regarding this. You can just say that they need some more time to visit places.
Ideally, I wouldnt recommend, having them overstay. This might have issues in the future, if they plan to visit again.
If they have a 5 or 10 year multiple entry visas, they can go back home and come again in another 6 months or so.

Hello All,
For the Visitors Visa(for parents), can a photocopy of Pay-check's be sufficient. Since the last few pay-rolls, my employer is giving everybody a photocopy of the Pay-check from Pay-chex Inc.To reduce costs of printing and mailing the Pay-checks, My employer is asking Pay-chex Inc to email the Bi-weekly pay-rolls of everybody.
Wondering if the US Embassy in India would create an issue by not bringing the original Pay-stubs.

I am currently working for big consulting firm, they hold my H1 and 485 is pending for more than 6 months. i have valid EAD from pending 485.
I am getting full time opportunity, my new employer is ready to transfer H1 as well as they are willing to accept me using EAD. so its entirely my preference.
can you please tell me adv/dis adv of using H1 over EAD or vice versa. (my 6 yrs of H1 will finish in another 6-7 months)
